Scope

Advanced manufacturing holds a crucial position in socioeconomic development, high-technology incubation, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and various other areas. The transition from subtractive to additive manufacturing, the shift from hard materials to soft, bio, nano, and smart materials, and the progression from laboratory curiosity to field applications have all contributed to the rapid development of advanced additive manufacturing science and technology. This field has witnessed numerous paradigm-shifting breakthroughs and unprecedented discoveries. However, the pursuit of extreme applications and the necessity for multi-disciplinary research and development call for a unified effort from the academic community to identify pressing challenges and propose suitable directions to address these challenges that emerge daily.

This Focus Issue aims to showcase the advancements and developments in advanced additive manufacturing, ranging from fundamental principles to practical applications, with an emphasis on material-related issues in alignment with the technical scope of Materials Futures.

Topics of interest include (but not limited to):

·         Development of printing materials, including polymers, ceramics, metals, and composites

·         Enhancing the additive manufacturing capabilities of printing materials

·         Investigating deformation and failure in printing materials, such as creep, diffusion, relaxation, fracture, glass transition, and oxidation

·         Exploring 2D/3D/4D printing technologies and bioprinting techniques

·         Examining micro- and nano-joining technologies

·         Applications of additive manufacturing in various fields, such as 3D integrated circuits, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, consumer products, and more.
